Where We Are

A little over one hours drive West from Calgary and around twenty minutes East of Banff in Alberta, is the Town of Canmore, gateway to the Canadian Rockies. Canmore has become a bustling community thriving with enthusiasm to meet the demands of today’s tourist market.

With as much heritage to offer as many other parts of Western Canada, Canmore has grown up from a CP. Rail staging post in 1883 to a Coal mining town in 1899. Coal mining became the main industry for some 80 years before the last mine wound down its operations in 1979. In 1988 Canmore was the proud host of the «Winter Olympics» boasting some 57 Km of groomed trails and facilities for the games Nordic Ski events.... This was the kick-start of a new era in the Tourist industry. Today with a population base of around 15,000 people Canmore, in her serene mountain settings, offers many excellent eateries and accommodations at Hotels, Motels, vacation condos, and B&B's. There are many attractions around town with a fine museum, gift shops and recreation facilities. And with the addition of more maintained ski trails at the Nordic Center, Canmore is able to offer attractions for an all year round market especially for the outdoor enthusiast... The Nordic Center has in the past played host to the «Three Sisters International Sled Dog Classic» a dog sled race that had been held for several years during the last week of January. This event, which attracted up to 10,000 spectators over a weekend, was a great event to see for an exciting peek into the livelihoods of Mushers and their trusty companions of the trail... These are some of the reasons and qualities that appealed to myself resulting in Canmore becoming the host town for «Mad Dogs & Englishmen» as a base of operations.
