New! Fortress Mountain Adventure Tour

Dogsled through movie sets!

Experience the beauty of Fortress Mountain by dogsled. Once one of Alberta’s premier ski areas, Fortress Mountain now offers a popular cat-skiing operation and is a favorite location for many movie sets.

Movies filmed at Fortress

Alberta's dramatic landscapes have become some of Hollywood’s favourite filming locations. Here are some of the most famous: Inception, The Revenant, Cold Pursuit, The Bourne Legacy, Jumanji: The Next Level and many more.

This tour will begin with a shuttle from the base of the access road up to our trailhead about 3/4 of the way up to the old ski area (approx 15 min). Here, we will start with an orientation on dog sledding, dog handling, and equipment. You will have an opportunity to meet the dogs and assist the guides with harnessing and setting up the teams. This is a new trail, built this year, for our dogsledding company. Here, you will enjoy terrain and views that many have not been able to see since 2004 except in the movies.

Spectacular views will seen along this trail that skirts around the now popular KPOW cat ski operation and back along the plateau of West Woody for approx 10 km. Once back at the trailhead, you will have some time to thank the dogs, give them treats, and warm up in our tent by a fire enjoying some hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies before shuttling back down to parking area.

It would take approx 2.35 hrs from Calgary, 45 min from Canmore, and 1.35 hours from Banff. See our "Map Page" for more info.

  • There are a number of dog sledding companies in the Canadian Rockies to choose from. At Mad Dogs & Englishmen Expeditions, we believe in providing an authentic experience, with small group sizes, usually with a maximum of 5 sleds unless more are required for larger groups. By choosing us, you will experience a more personable, relaxed, real adventure... Experience what mushing is really like!
